Topic: SAM Communication With php Pages

I need to ask a question that I don't know how to phrase.

I was considering a CMS system for my web site, but I don't know how to ask the web host if SAM would be able to communicate with the SAM pages that they host. I know that not all web hosts allow communication between SAM/mySQL & a web site.

I guess I should find out if they accommodate php & mySQL communication? Is it the ports which SAM uses that some web hosts block?

How do I phrase my question for the web host?

Thanks.

Yes, they block the ports.  For example, POWWEB now blocks ports they they didn't a year or so ago.  So, requests, mySQL access, etc. will not work on POWWEB.  Without recommending any specific webhosts, there are ones that work with the SAM PHP website.

Here are the ports that you need to be open:

Port 1221 is used for requests
Port 3306 is used for mySQL if you are using the PHP website

Hope that helps.  PM me or DJ Cassio and we can tell you some hosts that don't block these ports.

If you want to use a cms and use elements of sam within it I would be happy to host your samphpweb for you and you wouldn't need to change hosts. You can then iframe the wanted parts into your cms pages.

Re: SAM Communication With php Pages

Perhaps there could be an addition to the third party content topic to include web hosting for stations or a topic for web hosting? I leave the needed ports open for Sam. Many hosts do not, this leaves a lot of people with no recourse to make the samphpweb work. For pro webcasters this is important.

I don't want that area to grow out of control, but I kinda see web design/web hosting as part of a station's "Image", so how about using the "Imaging" forum for that?
